Opening Remarks by Maggie Chan, President of the Macau Professional Speaking Association

Dear distinguished guests, judges, and contestants,

I am delighted to represent the Macau Professional Speaking Association in delivering the speech for the award ceremony of the 2nd Annual Macao-wide English Essay Competition.

This competition centers around the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals, with the primary objective of promoting the concept of sustainable development and encouraging everyone to focus on the development of our collective future.

The Macau Professional Speaking Association has been committed to nurturing speaking talents, promoting the culture of public speaking, providing speech training, and actively participating in community activities to facilitate social progress and development. We believe that public speaking is a crucial form of communication that allows individuals to convey their thoughts and ideas, exert influence, and inspire and motivate others.

The essay competition not only provides a platform to showcase Macao’s youth but also enhances the participants’ communication and critical thinking abilities through thinking, writing, and speaking. Additionally, through this competition, we gain a better understanding of the significance and practical methods of sustainable development, collectively addressing global development issues and contributing our efforts towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Lastly, I would like to express my gratitude to all the sponsors, co-organizers, and individuals from various sectors for their support. I extend my thanks to the participation of students from different schools in Macau, which has added vibrancy and diversity to this competition. I also acknowledge the dedication and efforts of the organizing committee members and association members, who have made this competition a success. Let us eagerly anticipate the outstanding works of this competition and look forward to further communication and collaboration in the future.

Thank you all!
