Macao, China: Macau Speech Professionals Association (MSPA) is proud to announce the start of their Macao-wide English Essay Competition. As the first English essay competition geared towards promoting the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals, the competition is recognized as a local observation by UN Habitat’s Urban October activity which encourages the world to discuss the opportunities and challenges of urban sustainability in the month of October. With the support of SDSN Youth Hong Kong as their supervisor and the United Nations University Institute in Macau as the advisor for the competition, MSPA is working closely with their co-organizers and partners to create a platform for students to reflect on the theme: “The Change I Want to Make”
The Macao-wide English Essay Competition will span over four months from September to December of 2021, encouraging the young generation in Macao to explore the possibility of a more sustainable and resilient future. Students from local universities, secondary and elementary schools, and youth organizations are invited to learn about the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, come up with an idea, and submit their essays.
“The main purpose of this initiative is to bring students closer to the topics that pertain to the world and their future,” says Competition Chair, Sandy Leong, “We hope that this essay competition may inspire the young generation in Macao to find ways to bring positive change to our city.”
After the essays are judged and scored, winning essays will be published into an essay collection to embrace the voices of student stakeholders in the society and initiate a wider discussion about building a more sustainable and resilient future together.
